January 7, 2006 the team made the treck up to Mountain Speedway in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Luckily the weather wasn't very cold with the temperature in the 30s and 40s all day. There were 66 big cars to take the green flag with light snow flying for most of the race. Joe's car was running well and he ran in the top ten for most of the race. A spin in the later part of the race would end that. The car spun sideways and another car came by and clipped the nose and blew the radiator. He was out of the race in 47th position. The April first race was canceled.
On April 29th the team participated in the Spring Spectacular located at Pocono Mountain Speedway in Pennysylvania. The race was 100 laps and points were awarded to all the cars that started the race. Joe started the race in 39th position and moved up from there. On about lap 55 he cut down a left front tire forcing hime to pit. His chances at winning were now over going about 5 laps down due to his flat tire. He went back out on the track and finished the race in 24th position. The car sustained some minor damage but nothing the crew can't fix.
The Memorial Day race turned out to be a successful day for Team 302. The big car race was firts to race on the hot Monday afternoon. There were 62 Big Cars to take to the track in the Rich Johnson Memorial Race. The racing was clean which would help Joe Helberg in his number 302 to finish in 13th position in the race but after the tech. inspection the team found out that he would move up to eleventh place after 2 cars in the top ten were disqualified. Joey Helberg in the 302 tried to make the July 2nd race successful after starting the race in the 43 position. It would be tough for him to move up in the 46 car field but he managed to get moving quickly befor trouble struck on about lap 30 when a transmission line came undone from the transmission. The car went up in a massive cloud of smoke and he was able to bring it into the pits. The crew quickly went to work in finding the problem once the crew found it the line was reconnected and the car was filled back up with transmission fluid and Joey was ready to do battle again. He only lost a few laps with his pit stop due to the red flag flying numerous times during his time in the pits. He got back out and began to move up when the problem struck again on lap 75 when the transmission line came undone once again finally ending the teams day with a DNF placing him in 29th position. Hopefully there is no damage done to the transmission but the team is sure to find out and will be back for the July 29th race.
Joey Helberg stated on the outside of row number one in the Labor Day race at Mountainspeedway. Joey made every attempt to hold his ground but slowly drifted back in the field. The race went non stop from green flag to checkerd flag. He wound up placing in the 17th position out of 39 cars. Joey's 302 Grand Marquis was having handeling issues which caused him to drop back to 17th, without any red flags the tires did not have any chance to cool down which led to them comming apart and causing the car to loose grip with the racing surface.
On July 29th Joey Helberg in his 302 Ford placed 8th out of 44 cars. It was a hot day and with no problems the 302 team Joey was able to gain some valuable points placing him 12th in the overall point standings.
